Vegan This Year For 5+ Reasons

Are you thinking of becoming vegan? Or maybe your best friend just “went vegan” and you wonder why?

Official stats say that 542,000 of the UK citizens are vegan (according to a survey done in 2016  )

Another study showed 1.62 million Americans as being vegan.

So, let’s dive into the subject and find out why you should consider adopting a vegan lifestyle. We’ll see what are the advantages and if there are any. Let’s see who benefits from you becoming a vegan.

  1. For your health  

A vegan diet is so much better for your health ( and there is more about this subject in the Healthy Vegan Category). There are so many studies and so much medical literature supporting the above statement. Long story short, those studies show that vegans are less likely to develop heart disease,high blood pressure, cancer and diabetes, conditions that are so common in today’s world. More, a vegan diet is able to reverse those conditions.(Research Dr Caldwell Esselstyn’s work).

A few weeks on a vegan diet and you will see a boost in your energy level, your skin will look better, you will feel more rested. You know how after a heavy meal you feel sleepy and sluggish? You can eat as much as you want, you will never feel like that after a vegan meal.

 2.For those extra pounds/kilograms that you are trying to lose

Have you been trying to lose weight? Or, is losing weigh on your goal list?

Studies show that a vegans are 20 pounds lighter than meat eaters. Switching to a vegan diet you will lose weight and you will keep it off.

  3.For the animals

Do you have a pet? And you believe in animal rights? Do you think that all sentient creatures have a right to life?

Whatever the reason is you care for animals, the best way to prevent their exploitation and suffering is to become vegan.

  4.For the environment

You must wonder what has your stake you just had for dinner got to do with…let’s say…deforestation. More than 90% of all Amazon rainforest land cleared since 1970 is used for livestock grazing.In addition, the crops grown in the rainforest are used to feed animals.

We not only destroy our land, but we destroy our oceans as well. Bottom trawling and long-lining often kills all life and  destroys coral reefs. Plus, the fish farms release faces, antibiotics, parasites in the waters.

The excrements produced by the animals raised for food are stored in waste lagoons. Sometimes, to avoid water pollution, factory farms spray liquid manure into the air. Most of those chemicals are toxic to humans and can cause inflammatory, immune and neurochemical problems.

Have you noticed how the majority of hotels ask you to reuse the towels to save water? Nothing wrong with that, every little thing counts! However, not many people know that a single cow used for milk can drink up to 230l of water/day to produce 4l of milk. A lot, isn’t it? By going vegan, one person can save 995,593l of water/ year.

Is our climate changing? Is there a global warming? More than 51% of the global greenhouse-gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture.

5.For world hunger

With the amount of grain we produce, we should be able to feed 2 billion people.Still there are millions suffering of hunger. Every year 6 million children die of starvation. 82% of the world’s starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals which are then exported to first world countries.

6.Animal products are not healthy 

We all know that animal products contain bacteria, antibiotics, hormones and many other toxins.

So many studies have shown the correlation between the consumption of animal products and cancer, gynecomastia, obesity, arthritis, E Coli  multi resistant infections and so many more.

The factory farms are abusing pharmaceuticals with no regards to human health.

7.For the people

What about human rights? Have you ever thought about the farm workers? Most of them are immigrants, working on a very low pay, in horrific conditions. They are at high risk of contacting disease or getting injured. In 2012 CDC stated:”Every day, about 167 agricultural workers suffer a lost-work-time injury. Five percent of these injuries result in permanent impairment.”

There are many other reasons why you should try a vegan lifestyle.
